Tips for Regularly Backing Up Your Google Sites
In celebration of World Backup Day on March 31st, I'd like to share some information on how you can regularly back up your Google Sites.
Google Sites has no storage limit
Unlike other files, such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and non-Google files like Word documents, PDFs, and photo images, Google Sites itself does not take up any space in your Google Drive. In other words, it doesn't consume any of your Google Drive storage at all!
If you're interested in learning more about this, I have a separate article on the topic posted here.
So, why do you need to back up your Google Sites?
Just because Google Sites doesn't consume storage doesn't mean that your site's files are not important. Your website is the face of your business and brand, and it should be treated as an important asset.
Fortunately, there is a very easy way to back up your Google Sites files. Here's how!
First and foremost, create a folder in your Google Drive and move or copy your Google Sites files into that folder.
Second, use Google Takeout service to export your Google Sites files. As you can see, you can only select Google Drive and a certain folder in Drive to back up.
Now, you can choose the option to back up your files either one time or regularly. In this demo, I have chosen to back up twice a month and send the backup to my email.
That's it! Now you will receive an email every two months with a downloadable link. You can choose to skip downloading it, but you will receive this downloadable link every two months, and you will have a regular backup schedule in place!
Oh, it can only do up to one year, so all you have to do is mark your calendar to repeat this process on every Backup Day!
